Youth Director, Montgomery United Methodist Church, Montgomery, TX
1. Description
Seek to provide comprehensive ministry to the whole spectrum of youth within the church, the Youth Director shall have oversight of all youth ministries, and shall be report to the senior pastor.
2. Scope
At present, the following ministries are involved: youth (grades 6-12), and college age young adults. Ministries should be age-appropriate and involve various purposes within each age-group, i.e. discipleship, missions, worship, and fellowship.
3. Functioning
Will function within a team environment which includes two associate pastors, children’s ministry director, music director, and administrative staff.
4. Theology
Must embrace a Wesleyan theological approach consistent with the United Methodist Church.
5. Responsibilities
Will have the following responsibilities:
A. Consult
Develop each age-specific ministry according to the commitment level philosophy of ministry (engaging youth at each level of spiritual commitment) - where ministry is extensive in scope (reaching and discipling youth) and intensive in depth (caring for and developing youth and leaders); to communicate a vision for ministry that is relational, Christlike and intentional with each group; and to inform the church on these ministries, allowing youth to impact adults and adults to impact the youth.
B. Co-ordinate
Embrace an atmosphere of interdependence and continuity between ministries so that various groups are smooth and young people are retained and grown at points of transition; to support other ministries, promoting the value of intergenerational church unity. Embrace relationships with other area churches, the connectional relationship with District United Methodist churches, and the Texas Annual Conference.
C. Care
Demonstrate the love of Christ to the youth. This will also require being involved in their lives as a spiritual leader, mentor, and friend.
D. Communicate
Form councils (youth and parents) to assist in ministry formation and implementation; communicate week to week with staff and to the Church Administrative Council on a monthly basis.
